It happened! And we missed it!!

So after all that struggle we finally got our livestream working. And we got it stablized. And it was working great around the clock quite dependably for several days. That is until Ron went to work this morning! Not 15 minutes after he drove away the livestream crashed. I tried to fix it but I could not get it to work. I gave up and resigned myself to having to wait until he got home from work. When he got home, it started working for him without any trouble at all. I heard that Mocha was making a strange sound and wondered if that was the “mama voice” that I’ve read about and been told about that they make right before the babies are born. Then I saw something move on the ground! A baby! And then I saw another one! TWINS! And then I realized, “WE MISSED IT!” We missed the whole thing! It wasn’t even recorded because the livestream had crashed so I couldn’t even go back and watch it. We totally missed it!  I’m quite disappointed that I missed it. But I am ever so thankful that both babies are alive and healthy and seem to be doing well! And Mama Mocha is doing well. Praise the Lord they are healthy!

You can see the video of my first view of the babies here in this video I recorded on my phone.

And here is the livestream so you can see what Mama Mocha and the babies are doing right now. Since they were born on Pi day we’re probably going to name them after pies. Or maybe a math algorithm, but I think pies. We haven’t decided for sure yet.

If you are having trouble viewing the livestream on the web page here you can go directly to my Twitch channel and view it there. https://www.twitch.tv/tinyzoo

Better equipment would have prevented the livestream crash we experienced earlier today. If you enjoy watching our goat cam, please consider making a donation to the upkeep and maintenance of our equipment. Thanks for watching!

*UPDATE sometime before midnight* I think we have two little does! I didn’t see any boy parts when we picked them up to dip their umbilical cords in betadine. Their bellies were kind of messy but they looked like girls to me. Yay!

*UPDATE 3-15-2017 11:54 am* The smaller of the two doesn’t seem to be thriving. She is not as active. I’m not 100% sure she is nursing. The livestream is working properly again but you’ll notice we had to put up some emergency panels all around the pen. The more active baby goat escaped through the wires last night. I watched her do it on the livestream (so glad it was working and I was up to see it!) so we went up there at midnight or so and worked until 2 am putting up cardboard and repositioning the plywood panel so that the enclosure is safer for baby goats. So very tired today!

*UPDATE 3-15-2017 12:43 pm* We tried the least invasive method first. Hoping that works. We held the weaker baby and gave her a little heated milk from a bottle. We’re hoping to stimulate her appetite so she will nurse from Mama. We also moved the livestream camera to a post by the gate so we can hopefully see the babies better now. Less of the stall is visible now. And Mama doesn’t like it. Might not be able to keep it there.

*UPDATE 3-15-2017 3:22 pm* The computer that runs the camera is overheating. This is causing the livestream to malfunction. The little one is looking more weak. We’re going to have to feed it more this time.

*Update 3-15-2017 3:56 pm* Rivan got the livestream working again. And I saw the little one nursing, and the bigger one that is stuck between the buckets right now was nursing earlier. So I think I’m going to leave them alone for now. Hopefully little one figured out the food thing properly now.

*UPDATE 3-15-2017 11:18 pm* Praise report! I started asking friends to pray with me for our little goat and late tonight she started nursing! We saw both of them nursing at the same time at one point. And have seen them both up and walking around. I am hopeful we are over the rough spot and that the little bit of milk we got into her earlier today helped. Thank you, Jesus, for healing her!

*UPDATE 3-22-2017 8:34 pm* We have had some web cam outages, but overall have kept the camera running around the clock as much as we can. It helps us be able to watch the condition of them from our house when they don’t know we’re watching. Yesterday we had a vet come by and look at them because the babies have been wheezing and breathing hard, and Mama Mocha has been coughing. The vet spent over two hours with us and taught us a lot of things we didn’t know before and confirmed a lot of things we had read or heard from other people/websites/books/sources. She gave Mama Mocha a multi mineral shot, and an iron shot, and an anti-parasite shot. She gave the babies a selenium shot. She gave the other goats multi-min shots and anti-parasite shots as well. She’ll be back in a couple of weeks to give the babies their anti-parasite shots, they’re too young and fragile right now. Tonight I had to give them an antibiotic shot. Boy that was scary!!! The first one flinched and started bleeding a lot, and some of the medicine got on her fur instead of in her. The second one did better but still bled some. I used antiseptic wipes to clean them up. We have to do this again in three days. Not looking forward to that. It scares me.
