Goat Cam on YouTube

*ORIGINAL POST FOR THIS PAGE* 3-26-2017 Sunday:

So… apparently someone flagged my Twitch account and my account got suspended. I’ve read through the Twitch terms of service twice and can’t figure out what “other terms of service” that I supposedly violated. I guess someone didn’t think I should be streaming live video of baby goats? Anyway, you can now find the baby goats on my YouTube channel. Look for my livestream feeds.

In yesterday’s news, we gave the babies their last dose of medicine last night. They are running and jumping and looking really healthy. We built a little playpen for them outside the maternity stall so they can go outside a little bit without being at risk from the other goats or alpaca. After the herd gets used to them we will take down the fence and let them have full access to the pasture.

We also had baby chicks start hatching yesterday! We have 13 live chicks as of today out of 31 eggs. Still waiting to see if more hatch. Here is our first view of our first baby chick!

Last night I streamed the hatching of baby 8 and baby 9 on my Facebook channel. I’ll try to get that video uploaded to Youtube for you to see also.

In today’s news, the two older twins (Sugar and Cupcake[formerly known as Creamcake]) somehow managed to climb over the top of the fence and get themselves trapped in the playpen. Ron got them out by letting them into Mocha’s stall and through the barn. Much easier than what I was thinking we were going to have to do. He is very smart. So they are back loose with the rest of the herd now (Latte and Cloud). Coco is still in isolation because the vet said he needs more time for his leg to heal. He is a sad Alpaca, but it’s better for his leg that he stay isolated. He gets fresh hay every day and hopefully will heal soon. Cloud is looking depressed, but hopefully he will get happier when we get Mocha out in the pasture with him.

We still haven’t totally decided on names for the new twins. There is still some dispute about if they should have a math name, a Greek name, or a dessert name. I like the idea of a dessert name because it fits better with all the other names of our goats. Since they were born on Pi day I was looking up names of pies last night that might be good for two white angora goats. I think Chiffon and Canele’ are good names.

In other news, some people have been asking how the little goat that was very sick is doing. Both of them ended up getting a respiratory infection. The first vet I called kept telling me to wait until they weren’t eating or drinking and were lethargic before I did anything. Well everything I have read says when they get to that point they almost certainly die. I KNEW they were sick already and didn’t want to wait until they were almost dead before intervening so I stayed up half the night one night messaging every mobile vet I could find listed in the greater Treasure Valley area to see if any of them would come to our house. Finally two responded. I went with the first vet that could get here the fastest and she was amazing. She spent over 2 hours on our property, she looked at all our barn animals, not just the babies. She treated ALL the goats for selenium deficiency. She gave me antibiotics for the babies. And she has been so helpful in telling me what I need to do over the phone. Mama and both the babies (all three) had respiratory infections, but they are all doing much better now. The babies are bouncing around the pen and Mama Mocha has not been coughing any more. I’m so happy they are better. It could have ended very badly. And if anyone in the Nampa-Caldwell area needs a mobile vet for their large barn animals (cows, goats, alpacas, etc.) look up Dr. Georgia King DMV. She is fantastic!

*UPDATE* Thursday March 30, 2017
Today we are experiencing sustained 30 MPH winds with gusts 40-50 MPH. We had snow this morning, slushy rain, and temperatures in the mid 30’s most of the day. The baby goats were shivering this morning. So, even though my back was spasming, I drove to Melba to buy two baby goat coats for them so they would not get sick from being chilled. Mama Mocha wondered what we had done to them but she decided it was ok. The babies seem to like their fancy coats and don’t have a problem with it at all.

*UPDATE* April 7, 2017 – morning
Something went wrong with our equipment today. The sound bugged out and when I reloaded the software the camera wouldn’t come back on. Hope to have the livestream back up and running this afternoon. Hopefully it’s something simple like a wire came loose.

*UPDATE* April 7, 2017 – afternoon
We were able to get it back up and running sometime around noon. The goats spent quite a bit of the day outside today. They came in around 5 to warm up though, the wind was pretty cold still.

*UPDATE* April 11, 2017
I was gone most of the day yesterday and at some point the livestream crashed. We got it up and running again today just in time to let the goats out of their stall. So the view is mostly of an empty stall except for when Mocha brings the babies in for naps. I think it’s cute that she brings them into their stall for naps and to warm up under the lights.
